Privacy Policy for BBC Social – Facebook Connector

1. Introduction

BBC Social (“we”, “our”, or “us”) provides a WordPress plugin that allows website owners and their users to connect their Facebook accounts and automatically share content such as posts, links, and media to their Facebook Pages.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information through the Facebook Login feature and the BBC Social plugin.

2. Information We Collect

a. Information Provided by Users

When a user connects their Facebook account via Facebook Login, Facebook shares limited information with us, including:

  • User ID and name

  • Facebook Page IDs and names (for Pages the user manages)

  • Page access tokens (used to publish posts on the Page)

We do not collect Facebook passwords or any private messages.

b. Information Collected Automatically

We may collect:

  • Basic site information (domain, WordPress version, plugin version)

  • Logs of connection status or errors for troubleshooting (if debug logging is enabled)

No personal Facebook content (posts, comments, media) is stored or analyzed by BBC Social.

3. How We Use the Information

We use the data solely to:

  • Authenticate Facebook users via Facebook Login

  • Enable authorized posting to the Facebook Page selected by the user

  • Maintain connection tokens required to perform automated posting

  • Diagnose and fix plugin functionality or API errors (optional debug logs)

We do not sell, rent, or share any Facebook data with third parties.

4. Data Retention and Control

  • Access tokens are stored securely within the website’s database for the account that connected them.

  • A user can disconnect Facebook at any time, which deletes the access token.

  • Site administrators can also delete all Facebook connection data manually.

If the plugin is deleted or uninstalled, all connection data is removed.

5. Data Shared With Facebook

When a user connects or posts via the plugin, BBC Social communicates directly with the Facebook Graph API to:

  • Obtain Page access tokens

  • Publish posts (title, excerpt, link, and featured image)

All communication is handled securely via Facebook’s API over HTTPS.

6. User Rights

Users who connect their Facebook account can:

  • Disconnect their account at any time

  • Request deletion of stored Facebook connection data

  • Revoke permissions directly in their Facebook account → Settings → Business Integrations

7. Security

We apply standard WordPress and hosting-level security practices to protect stored tokens and configuration data, including:

  • Encrypted database storage (where available)

  • HTTPS communication

  • Restricted admin access

8. Children’s Privacy

BBC Social and its associated services are not intended for individuals under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on our official website.
